Scaling, solution design, and the real impact of AI in financial services

Alberto Cuccu

COO International, Objectway

OWIN26

This podcast episode was recorded during Objectway’s Customer Conference OWIN26, a key gathering of financial services professionals focused on innovation, scalability and transformation.

In this conversation, Alberto Cuccu, COO International at Objectway, shares his perspective on how financial institutions can effectively balance technological innovation with operational execution. He highlights that, despite the abundance of new technologies, true scalability remains a challenge for many organisations. Success, he explains, depends on building a strong platform foundation that enables growth without increasing complexity and costs proportionally.

Alberto emphasises that innovation must be aligned with each institution’s specific business model. Rather than adopting one-size-fits-all solutions, firms need tailored approaches built on a largely standardised core, complemented by targeted configuration to preserve differentiation while ensuring efficiency. This approach underpins Objectway’s “solution-as-a-service” model, designed to support complex and interconnected value chains across wealth and asset management.

A key theme is the importance of a holistic, “front-to-back-to-front” architecture, where processes and data flow seamlessly to generate actionable insights across the organisation. Isolated innovation, particularly at the front end, risks undermining performance if not supported by a robust operational backbone.

As the industry evolves, Cuccu identifies the embedding of AI as a major transformation driver, enabling a shift from systems that support decisions to systems that can act autonomously. While AI can significantly enhance efficiency, he stresses that human oversight remains essential, particularly in managing client relationships. In a domain shaped by emotions and behavioural biases, the human element continues to be a critical differentiator, with technology serving as a powerful enabler rather than a replacement.
